Objective of the Project:
To construct a 30″ dia 52 km pipeline from Dhanua to Elenga and another 30″ dia 15.20 km pipeline from West Bank of Bangabandhu Bridge to Nalka with a view to enhancing the overall efficiency of the Natural Gas Grid for ensuring supply of un-interrupted additional gas to existing Power Plant, Fertilizer Factory and other Industries under TGTDCL, PGCL and SGCL Franchise areas and Proposed Gas based 450 MW Power Plant at Sirajganj as well as 450 MW Gas based under construction Power Plant at Bharamara.

Project Activities & Progress :
Package-1 (Procurement of Pipeline Materials and Equipment): The supply of all the materials including line pipes, bends, valves, fittings etc. completed.
Package-2 (River Crossing by HDD Method): The crossing of 6 rivers such as Bongshai, Tonki-1, Tonki-2, Safai, Langalia & Salda river completed.
Package-3 (Installation of 3 RMS/MMS): The design, drawing, prefabrication & site installation works were completed. The civil works has been almost completed. The Pre-commissioning, Commissioning works of the RMS/MMS have been delaying due to Covid-19 pandemic situation.
Package-4 (Construction of 67.20 km pipeline): The West Bank of Bangabandhu Bridge-Nalka 15.20 km pipeline section was commissioned on 11-12-2019 and the Dhanua-Elenga 52 km pipeline section was commissioned on 04-10-2021.
Right of Way (ROW)/Land Related Progress & Issues:
The acquisition & requisition of land along ROW in Gazipur, Mymensingh, Tangail & Sirajgang district were completed. GTCL sought permission to Forest Department on 21-07-2016 for using forest land along the ROW in Shakhipur upazilla under Tangail district but the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change provided approval belatedly on 20-07-2020 for using forest land & on 17-01- 2021 for tree cutting.
Resettlement Related Progress & Issues:
An NGO, namely, UDOY was appointed to assist properly implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) of the project for compensating project affected peoples due to the land acquisition & requisition. Resettlement of the PAPs under the project has been completed as per the guideline of JICA.
